After over a decade of experience as a teacher in the public education system, including 7 years as a behaviour specialist supporting students with behavioural and mental health diagnoses, I transitioned into private practice to continue my passion for helping others. As an ADHD coach, I have worked with hundreds of individuals of all ages, providing personalized support and strategies.
My approach is shaped by years of consulting with adults and parents impacted by ADHD, as well as my lived experience as a person with ADHD and as a parent to a child with ADHD. This unique combination of professional expertise, education, and personal empathy allows me to offer a comprehensive and understanding perspective to our work together.
My background as an educator has given me insight into the specific needs and gaps within the system, which Neilson Mahoney Coaching aims to address. I have direct experience working with children with ADHD in both the school system and private practice. Experience has taught me that working with the parents of children with ADHD is the most effective way to improve continuity and optimize results.
When you work with us, you can expect to gain a sense of connection. We value creating relationships and understanding your experiences.
We help validate those experiences as real and normal, and support you in creating systems and habits so you and your children can thrive with ADHD.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND:
Bachelor of Education with a minor in Early Childhood Education; a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Language and Literacy Education; a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Inclusive Education; and a Master of Education degree focusing on behavior and supporting diverse learners.
ADHD COACHING:
In August 2020, I completed my ADHD coaching certificate via a Professional Association for ADHD Coaches (PAAC) approved program at Live ADHD Free. Finally, I am a trained provider of Dan Duncan’s ADHD Inside Out Coaching Framework.
ONGOING EDUCATION
I believe in the importance of ongoing training and professional development. To stay at the forefront of ADHD support, I am an active member of CADDRA (The Canadian ADHD Resource Alliance). Additionally, I am a current doctoral student at the University of British Columbia, where I am researching the impact of providing teachers with ADHD education and strategies on student-teacher relationships. This commitment to continuous learning ensures that I bring the latest insights and evidence-based practices to my work with families.

“In a very short period of time, Erica has brought our family very useful knowledge, insight, clarity, hope and tools/strategies that will help our 10 year old son with ADHD to have success in the classroom at school, with his friendships and in our home life. She asks the right questions, recognizes our son’s strengths, understands his challenges/sensitivities, knows the school system really well, understands & communicates well with both kids and adults and has supported us to navigate and advocate for his success.”
